I am so glad you ask since I can give you a very first hand experience as I am now at home and having it for lunch tomorrow!

Basically, cocido is a very rich broth made with pieces of ham and chicken (including their bones), Spanish chorizo (spicy pork sausages), black pudding, potatoes, carrots and chickpeas. The way you eat it depends on family traditions, some people eat it all together with the broth while others, have the soup first, and then eat the meat, the vegetables and the chickpeas separately. Also, the way you prepare it (and some of the ingredients) depend on the are of Spain you are from.
