• Question: What will a robot have to be able to do for it to referred to as 'alive'?

      I am not 100% sure about this and probably Darren will be able to give you a much better answer. But, it is probably a matter of opinion. Some people will say alive means to have a pulse and some basic functions, like breathing, being able to take their own decision giving a list of inputs (like what they see, what they hear and so on),etc. Others, might expect some sort of “consciousness” and how you define that it is even more tricky. If you ask yourself, what makes us different from animals? Animals are clearly alive, but would you say they are like us?
